The Buddha laid down strict rules forbidding monks and nuns from cooking and storing food, or using money. This means monastics are entirely dependent on the kindness of others to eat every day.
The ancient tradition of offering food to a monk is found in all Buddhist cultures. It is regarded as an opportunity to generate merit by practising generosity and kindness towards the Sangha.
You are invited to participate in this beautiful practice during Bhante Akaliko’s residence at the Buddhist Library in February and March.
