Biography of Khenpo Tsering Tashi


Khenpo Tresring Tashi was born in Sershi, Tibet in 1976. He received primary education including Tibetan language and Buddhism at the age of nine. At the age of sixteen, he took the vow of ordained monk (Guesel) from Khenpo Arig Gyaltsen in Arig Monastery in Tibet. In 1993, He received Red Avalokiteshavara empowerment according to the Mindroling lineage from Khenchen Dragpa Gyaltsen. At the age of nineteen he went to Serta Limdo Shedra to study the philosophy of Sutra and Tantra under the guidance of Khenchen Choeying Chabdhel for three years. He also received the complete transmission of Severn Treasuries of Longchenpa from Khenpo Sherab , a heart disciple of Khenchen Choeying Chabdhal. In 1999, he returned to Arig Shedra to advance his studies. Due to his profound experience and knowledge of Buddhist philosophy as well as good character, he was conferred the title of Khenpo by Khenchen Pema Tsewang and served at Arig Shedra for three years. At 2001, he received the complete transmission of Tengyur from Tsabtsa Drupgen Rinpoche who himself is from the Kagyu lineage. He was prisoned for two years since 2003, because Chinese officials accused his book “The future of Tibet” against their policy. After released in 2006, he went to Dharamsala to have an audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.


As per His Holiness’ advice, he joined Dzongsar Institute, under the guidance of late Khenchen Rinpoche Kunga Wangchuk. While he was studying the Sakypa commentaries of Sutra and Tantra, he was also a member in editor section of Chokyi Loadro for three years. In 2007, he received the complete transmission of Kangyur from Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche. In 2008, he also received the complete transmission of Lamdre “Path and its Fruit” from His Holiness Sakya Trizin at Dzongsar Institute. He also received many Terma teachings from Taklung Tsetrul Rinpoche in 2009. In 2010 he received the complete cycle of Kyabje Dudjom Jikdral Yeshe Dorje from Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche at Spiti, India. At the same year, he was appointed by the office of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to study Chinese language in Taiwan. He established the Wheel of Wisdom – The Tibetan Buddhist Center of Study and Practice in Taipei in 2012. Since then, Khenpo has offered Dharma teachings at least three days a week continuously either face-to-face or online.  The courses he has offered include The Words of My Perfect Teacher, A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, Entering the Middle Way and Uttaratantra, Vajra cutter sutra, Heart sutra etc. He has also been the chairman of International Tibetan Buddhism Study Institute in Taiwan from 2014 to 2015. During this time, he has hosted the conference between Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse Rinpoche and Khenpo Tsultrim Lodrö. Additionally, he also hosted a micro film festival where Khyentse Rinpoche was the guest speaker. Khenpo also gave teachings regularly in schools, prisons and nursing homes. Since 2016 Khenpo Tsering Tashi has resettled in Sydney, Australia under the arrangement of UN Refugee Agency, Humanitarian program in Australia and the Tibetan government in exile.
