Book Club – Little Bites of Dharma
Have you often read the teachings of the Buddha and then thought or felt “it’ll be good to talk to some one or share with some one” – and this is what the Book Club is about. Join us at this Buddhist Library Book Club and share the experience and thoughts with others of similar interests. At the discussion we will be sharing little bites of Dharma with the others and a facilitator. One does not have to be well versed in the Dharma or to be a long time practitioner of Buddhism. One just have to have a desire to learn more about the Dharma.
This is a Book Club with a difference as the topic and facilitator change with each meeting – the topics are chosen by the facilitator and focus will be on Dharma in our every day life.
You are not required to read a whole book (hurray!!) – just a selection of a book or an article. The reading material will be sent to you in soft copy at least a week (hopefully more) before the date for the meeting.
The group will meet on the last Friday of each month from 12:30pm-1:30pm, beginning with a few minutes of warming up and getting to know you. It will be held at the Buddhist Library at Camperdown. You are welcome to bring along your lunch as the meeting runs over lunch time.
Registration is required to assist in the organising. We will email you a confirmation and the soft copy of the reading material.

Happiness is a state of mind that people have always been trying to achieve. However, the reality is that short bursts of joyous pleasure are followed by dissatisfaction. Matthieu Ricard in his best selling book Happiness makes a case for it to be a major goal of living. The chapter that has been selected will give food for thought on looking without and looking within for possible pathways towards this goal.
All Sessions by Dana (Donation).
Dana is the traditional practice of generosity, the extending of one’s goodwill, which is fundamental to Buddhism and other spiritual traditions. The teachings flourish in an atmosphere of generosity and gratitude, and these qualities in turn support the growth of wisdom and compassion in the practitioner. The instructions and guidance for this course are offered without requesting a specified fee and it is up to individuals to determine the amount of dana they would like to offer. It can sometimes be easy to become confused when we are new to this and we wonder “how much should I give?” This is a relevant question in the material economy but an appropriate dana cannot be prescribed but requires sensitivity to its intent and awareness of the costs and expenses associated with organising a course (e.g., administrative & venue costs).
